Description

The CIPP/US training provides a strong foundation in U.S. privacy laws and regulations and an understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to and from the United States, the EU, and other jurisdictions.

The CIPP/US training offers in-depth insight into U.S. federal and state privacy legislation, sectoral laws, and enforcement policies. The course also covers the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Privacy Rights Act.

Certification

This training is a preparation for the included CIPP/US exam, which allows you to obtain the internationally recognized CIPP/US certification from IAPP. After the training, you will schedule the exam independently using the exam voucher that we place directly in a new or existing MyIAPP account. You can take the exam at one of the exam locations (including at our location in Veenendaal) or from home, where a proctor will monitor you via your webcam.

Discusses the modern history of privacy, an introduction to personal information and an overview of data protection roles; summarizes modern privacy frameworks

Reviews the structure and sources of U.S. law and relevant terms, and introduces governmental bodies that have privacy and information security authority

Presents a high-level overview of the GDPR, discusses the significance of the GDPR to U.S. organizations, and summarizes the roles and responsibilities outlined in the law

Presents a high-level overview of the newly passed California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, including scope, consumer rights, business obligations, and enforcement

Distinguishes between criminal and civil liability, compares federal and state authority, presents theories of legal liability and describes the enforcement powers and responsibilities of government bodies, such as the FTC and state attorneys general

Explores the development of a privacy program and the role of privacy professionals, discusses vendor management and examines data collection, classification and retention

Describes privacy laws in healthcare, including the major components of HIPAA and the development of HITECH, and outlines privacy protections mandated by other significant healthcare laws

Outlines the goals of financial privacy laws, highlights key concepts of FCRA, FACTA and GLBA, and discusses the Red Flags Rule, Dodd-Frank and consumer protection laws
