Description

This training provides you with the fundamental knowledge and skills to use PowerShell for managing and automating the management of Windows servers. You will acquire the necessary skills to identify and write the command needed to perform a specific task. Additionally, you will learn how to build scripts to perform advanced tasks, such as automating repetitive tasks and generating reports.

The knowledge and skills you gain in this training will be useful when using a wide range of Microsoft products including Windows Server, Windows Client, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and more.

During the workshop, there is intentionally no focus on specific products, although Windows Server (as the platform for the other solutions) is used as an example for the techniques to be learned.

The most advanced part of this workshop based on MOC55039 delves deeper into writing PowerShell tools for automated, repeatable, and accurate management and control of your Windows Server infrastructure.

This training lasts 5 days (based on AZ-040 training supplemented with advanced components from MOC55039) or, upon request, 3 days.

Certification

There is no corresponding exam.

Training Requirements

What Can I Learn After The Workshop Powershell?

  • Windows PowerShell is a task automation and configuration management framework consisting of a command-line shell and associated scripting language. Key features include: 1. **Command-Line Interface**: PowerShell provides a powerful command-line interface that allows users to execute commands and scripts. 2. **Scripting Language**: It includes a rich scripting language that supports complex functions, loops, and conditional statements. 3. **Cmdlets**: PowerShell uses cmdlets, which are specialized .NET classes, to perform specific functions. Users can combine cmdlets to perform more complex tasks. 4. **Pipelines**: PowerShell allows the output of one cmdlet to be used as the input for another cmdlet, enabling efficient data processing. 5. **Remote Management**: It supports remote management of systems, allowing users to execute commands on remote machines. 6. **Object-Oriented**: Unlike traditional command-line interfaces that return text, PowerShell works with .NET objects, making it easier to manipulate data. 7. **Integrated Scripting Environment (ISE)**: PowerShell ISE provides a graphical user interface for writing, testing, and debugging scripts. To open and configure Windows PowerShell: 1. **Open PowerShell**: - Press `Windows + X` and select "Windows PowerShell" or "Windows PowerShell (Admin)" for administrative privileges. - Alternatively, search for "PowerShell" in the Start menu. 2. **Configure PowerShell**: - To change the execution policy, use the command: `Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned` (you may need to run as Administrator). - Customize the prompt and appearance by modifying the `$PROFILE` file. - Install modules using the command: `Install-Module -Name ModuleName`. By following these steps, you can effectively utilize and configure Windows PowerShell for your automation and management tasks.
  • Identify and use cmdlets for AD DS administration.
  • Manage Windows 11 using PowerShell
  • Invoke methods using CIM and WMI.
  • Debug a broken script
  • Discover, learn, and run Windows PowerShell commands
  • Identify and use cmdlets for network configuration.
  • The Windows PowerShell pipeline is designed to enable the chaining of commands, allowing the output of one command to be used as the input for another. This facilitates the efficient processing of data and automation of tasks by enabling users to create complex command sequences that can manipulate and analyze data in a streamlined manner. The pipeline enhances productivity by allowing users to combine simple commands into more powerful operations, making it easier to perform batch processing and manage system resources effectively.
  • Run a Windows PowerShell script.
  • Find Windows PowerShell commands for performing specific tasks.
  • Identify and use cmdlets for server administration tasks.
  • CIM (Common Information Model) and WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) are both standards used for managing and monitoring computer systems, but they serve different purposes and operate in different contexts. CIM is a standard developed by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) that provides a common framework for describing the structure and behavior of managed resources in a network. It is platform-independent and can be used across various systems and technologies, allowing for interoperability between different management tools and systems. WMI, on the other hand, is a Microsoft implementation of the CIM standard specifically designed for Windows operating systems. It provides a set of tools and APIs that allow developers and system administrators to access management information about the operating system, hardware, and applications running on Windows. WMI is tightly integrated with the Windows environment and provides a way to automate administrative tasks and gather system information. In summary, CIM is a broader standard applicable to various platforms, while WMI is a specific implementation of CIM for Windows systems.
